saturday night

Hello again!

So I failed at getting photos of the red dress from my last post like I said I would! However I'm planning to wear it again over the weekend so we'll see if I manage this time!

Today I have an outfit from last weekend. My boyfriend and I went away for the weekend and went out for a bit of a date :) This is what I wore:

Dress: AX Paris - last summer so no longer on website
Blazer - H&M
Scarf/Wedges - Peacocks
Lips: NYX Fire

It was cold so I did have to cover up with my scarf, and I also added a coat afterwards. I know I'm committing a bit of a crime by wearing navy with black but I think it looks okay! I know my shoes blend in with the carpet so here's a better picture:

These are really comfortable and I wore the beige pair on a night out and lasted the whole night with them on - result!

Terrible quality and ruined by flash photo of my make-up. This is the first time I've ever worn red lipstick and I really like it! On my eyes I'm not actually sure what I'm wearing but I think it's the Rimmel mousse which I reviewed here, with an MUA shadow in the crease and outer corner. I also did a little flick on my eyeliner which I don't usually do. This photo doesn't really do it justice but I really liked my make-up :)

Bonus photo with the pretty tree :)

I do have at least 2 posts lined up but I know I won't get round to posting them before Christmas so I just wanted to say that I hope you all have a wonderful festive season, whatever you're celebrating. This time last year I posted a thank you to my 12 followers, I can now thank 45 of you! To most bloggers that's probably nothing but it makes me so happy!

See you soon!

peacocks haul

Hi everyone :)

As I said yesterday, I had a bit of a spree in Peacocks with a 40% off voucher. I thought I'd show a few things I got:

Firstly was the cardigan and socks from my last post. Add those to two of the things in this post and you'll probably notice a bit of a pattern. I really love this design for winter, it makes me feel so cosy and festive :)

This sort-of-poncho - the website calls it an edge-to-edge cardigan so maybe that's the official term! - didn't photograph very well so take a look at it on the Peacocks site too. It's really lovely and warm :)

Same pattern again! This scarf came with matching mittens and earmuffs but I was sensible and just settled for the scarf :) This shopping trip for me was definitely about getting some winter warmers!

I already have these shoes in the 'natural' colour and have worn them loads since I got them so thought the black pair would come in handy. These seem to be sort of padded on the inside, they're so comfortable for walking around in!

I couldn't resist both colours of these wedges! They don't seem to be on the website so I can't link to them but I believe without my discount they were £20. I love wedges as they're so much more comfortable and easier to  walk in than normal heels, but still look great :) I intend to wear one of these pairs tonight actually so you may see a post including them!

Sorry for the major flash! This dress was on the website when I last looked but seems to be gone now :( It came with a belt that wasn't actually too bad, it's just not on the dress because it's been washed. I liked this as it's a jersey type of material that means it isn't too formal for the day, but it's also nice for an evening - I'm planning to wear this tonight with one of the pairs of shoes above. This looks much better on that it does on the hanger, I'll try to get a photo!

As well as all this I got my Secret Santa at work a present, and some more tights as you can never have enough! I also bought a plain black skater dress that's the same style as the dress from this post. I now have three of these, they're so easy to wear and don't look too dressy for the day :) Productive shopping trip I think!

Hey everyone!

Quick outfit post today. It's nothing interesting and it's main purpose is to show you my new cardigan :) I have time off work until next Tuesday and so I can actually take photos in daylight, which is why I'm posting this outfit even though it's not very exciting, but if I showed you anything else, it wouldn't be what I'm actually wearing today :)

outfit 006outfit

Cardigan/Socks: Peacocks
Top: H&M
Leggings: F&F
Necklace: Elsie Belle

I love this cardigan, it's so warm and cosy :D I had a friends & family 40% off voucher at Peacocks so I spent rather a large amount and you should see the other things I bought in future posts - not sure whether they'll be outfits or a haul yet.

Got my good old sausage dog on :) I love him!

I have NYX Volcano all over my lids and Sephora Innocent Beige on my lips - simple as I'm not doing much, but I like to make an effort when I'm not at work :)

Hope you liked!

life #2

I'm feeling a bit ill and rubbish at the moment, but I have a bit of free time where I can't concentrate on anything too taxing, so thought I'd show you a few pictures I've taken recently.

I saw Leanne from Do Not Refreeze post here with a similar type of post. She used an app for Android called mytubo which is pretty much the Android version of Instagram. I've tested out a few different apps like this but I find this is the best one, until Instagram is available for Android! So after seeing that post, I installed the app and have been loving the photos I've been getting. Here are a few:

1. Lunch - risotto and tiger bread & butter, yum! 2. Attempting to feel better by double dosing the Beechams - did not work :( 3 & 4. Cats :)

1. Another picture of my nails from this post. Still can't stop looking at them :) 2. Playing about with the settings in the pub 3 & 4. Went to London yesterday, we went to the London Dungeons and then walked over Tower Bridge. I've never done that side of the bridge before and it was so pretty to look at :)

So that's just a few pictures of my life recently! I think I'll be doing more of these, depending on what I take pictures of. A lot of them are just of my cats :D

(P.S. 2 of them look uneven and it's bugging me, it's because the border is either black or white depending on what effect you choose!)

I do have a mytubo profile here but I should warn you that my sister and boyfriend are enjoying the app too so some pictures that get uploaded, I'm not even aware of!

Hope you liked :)

current nails

Hi everyone,

Just a quick 'I'm alive!' post really :) I may not be blogging as much as I'd like to but I am still really into painting my nails!

Rubbish webcam photo, bad lighting etc etc, but here are my nails of the moment:

This is Model's Own in Emerald City. I've posted about this once before (here) but I discovered that layering this over something makes it look so much better and thicker. This is actually only one coat of the glitter polish, on top of a nail polish I got in Spain by a brand called Yes Love in shade 405, which is actually suprisingly good quality for costing 99 cents! I can't find much about this brand online, but in the store I got them from they had tonnes of shades and I regret not getting more to be honest. I didn't really care what the quality was like because the colour is just so gorgeous. I'm talking way too much about a polish that you can't even see haha! But it's basically a non-glittery, shimmery and maybe a shade more blue version of the Emerald City.

I'm loving this colour! So gorgeous :)

Hope you liked!

superdrug hot cloth cleanser: review

Hello everyone! Today I have a review of the Superdrug Hot Cloth Cleanser for you.
Before I get started, I'd like to apologise for 2 things: firstly the lighting in these photos, as I'm sure you can imagine, when I get home from work it's dark and therefore natural lighting isn't an option. Secondly, I didn't noticed until I got them onto the PC, but there is a line of blur on these photos. Don't worry, I've rubbed it off since! :) Anyway, on to the review!

cleanser 005

I saw a lot in the blogging world about this, with lots of comparisons to the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish. (See here, here and here for three reviews that compare this to other cleansers.) I'd never used a cream cleanser before so thought this was a good place (and price!) to start.

cleanser 001

The cleanser comes in a squeezy tube which is good for hygiene purposes and also is a type of product that means I don't get it under my fingernails when scooping it out - bonus! I think a pump like the Liz Earle would have been better for getting out the last remnants of product, but for the price I won't complain. It smells gorgeous, sort of  like a cocoa butter smell, which is totally the sort of thing I go for.

cleanser 004

It comes with a muslin cloth which I find comes in very handy - I have found that this doesn't work so well if I just rub it on my face and then try to rinse it off with my hands. I could do with another but I believe most if not all of the hot cloth cleansers I have seen come with one, so I'm sure I will end up owning another soon.

cleanser 007

Sorry for the awful photo! I was trying to show that it's quite a thick cream consistency. For taking make up off I find this is brilliant. It works better than any other cleanser I've tried before and WAY better than the face wipes I use when I'm being lazy. It doesn't irritate my eyes or anything like that and I don't feel the need to re-cleanse - rubbing it in and then wiping it off with the muslin cloth gets my skin nice and clean.

In terms of helping my skin, I honestly can't tell. I have owned this for over two months and my skin has been up and down so I don't think I could put anything down to this cleanser. However, I haven't had any particularly horrible breakouts so at the least I can say that it isn't doing anything too bad.

What does worry me slightly is that this does say it is intended for normal/dry skin - I have very oily skin and so clearly I'm not the intended user of this. That being said, I don't think it has made me any more oily, but at the same time it doesn't make me any less oily - not that I expected it to, but it would have been a lovely bonus!

Like I said, I've had this for over 2 months, and obviously I can't tell for sure, but I'd say I have maybe 1/4 of the tube left. A full tube is 200ml so that's lasted me quite a long time :) Depending on when I run out, I will probably buy another. If this lasts me until Christmas it may be different, as I have a couple of other cleansers on my wishlist that I'd like to try. But if I run out before then, or I don't get one for Christmas, I expect to be buying another tube of this.

You can buy this cleanser here or in Superdrug stores. The price has definitely gone up since I bought it, I think Superdrug have picked up on it's popularity! I think £6 is still a reasonable price though.

Have any of you guys tried this? What did you think? Let me know if you have any questions!

cake time!

Hi everyone!

Bit of a different post today. It was my boyfriend's birthday on Tuesday and (amongst other things) I baked his birthday cake.

I saw Jennie's post here back in September and actually commented at the time saying I would be making it, and I did :)

I'm only going to post the interesting pictures, not of the mixing etc - for one I think Jennie's post shows it all, but also this isn't a recipe post. All of that credit goes to Jennie, I'm just showing you how mine turned out (which if I do say so myself, is pretty awesome!)

So, on with the photos! I took every photo with and without flash but decided flash made the colour slook so much more bright and exciting - not that they weren't anyway!)

All the coloured cake mix ready to be used. This part was so fun, watching the mix getting brighter and brighter :)

The cakes ready to go into the oven

The (almost) finished cake

The inside :D I'm so impressed with how it came out, it's better than I was expecting! I was planning to make him cookies anyway, so I put two over the mouth.

Instagrammed up :)

I intended to basically copy how Jennie's looked, but the colour gave me inspiration. A quick Google search gave me the basic idea for what I was going to do (the second picture mainly).

Like I said, I haven't included photos of the full process, Jennie's post covers all of that - and while you're there, check out her blog if you haven't already, I love it :)

For anyone wondering, this is the gel colouring set I bought.

So, what do you guys think? I'm so proud :D

leopard nails

Hi everyone :)

Sorry I haven't been posting much, to be honest I've been stuck for ideas and I don't want to just post for the sake of posting! I'm trying out a new foundation and have a couple of other new things that hopefully I'll get around to posting about :)

Anyway, today's post. Just a quick one, only one photo but I'm sure you don't need tonnes of photos of the same thing! I'm feeling really ill and sorry for myself today but thought I'd put up this post to show you my nails.

leopard nails

As you can see, my current nails are a leopard design. Can you tell which of my nails broke off recently?! :(

This is a fairly neutral leopard print, which I haven't done before - I usually like to do contrasting colours (see here for my first ever attempt at leopard nail art, I think I've improved loads since then! Wow, just realised that was over a year ago, so happy belated birthday to my blog! :D) but I wasn't really feeling anything bright on my nails so I went for this. The base is Barry M Peach Melba and the spots are Barry M Mushroom. The black/dark grey is W7 Pewter.

I'm very happy with this, I love how it looks and I think these look better than any of my other attempts at leopard print :)

What do you think?

rimmel colour mousse - glitz

Hi everyone! Hope you're all well :)

I have another review today. This is on the Rimmel Colour Mousse in 005 Glitz. I found this in a clearance box in Morrisons, for £2.49 - it usually retails for £4.99 (here for example). From what I can see, they aren't discontinuing the colour or anything like that, I think Morrisons just stopped stocking them, so I think I got a really good deal :) You can definitely tell from looking at it that it's been in a clearance box, but the inside is fine :)

I REALLY like this! The colour is gorgeous, a neutral but with plenty of shimmer to make it stand out. The texture is so beautiful, it glides on so easily and feels cooling on the eyes which is nice :) Once it dries, you really have to rub to get any to come off onto your fingers, so the staying power is brilliant.

Unfortunately the eye picture isn't a brilliant representation as my eye is slightly open (sorry, best picture I could get!), but I found this lasted for at least 10 hours with no creasing - it looked like the top picture all day. I also don't use a primer. I took it off before it creased so I'm not sure how long it could last if really put to the test, I think it  definitely does even better than the claims of 8 hours!

You can see other shades on the Rimmel website here. I am definitely interested in trying out other shades, particularly Sassy, Get Fresh! and Mocha. I think since they are all similar tones that they could look great together. I have only ever worn this on it's own as I'm not sure about mixing it with a powder shadow, so it would be interesting to try it out with another mousse.

Have you tried any of these mousse shadows? What did you think?

Hope you liked!

17 nail polish - pizazz

nails 009

I have sort of a nail of the day/review for you today :)

For my birthday I got given a 17 cosmetics set, and one of the items was this nail polish. I'm guessing it's from the Tinsel & Tiaras collection, and the shade is called Pizazz.

nails 010

This photo will give you an idea of the durability of this polish too. The other photos in this post were taken around midday on Friday and this photo was taken Monday evening, so I got a good three days wear out of it. I think it still looks acceptable and I also have a job where I'm typing most of the day, so my nails endure a fair bit of wear, so I'm pretty impressed with how this lasted.

nails 007

I actually really like this polish. I'd sort of written black nail polish off as a phase that I went through a long time ago and that only went with a certain look - I think we all know what I'm talking about! But the sparkle in this really changes the way it looks and I think it's really pretty, especially in the sunlight.

nails 012

I thought this photo showed off the sparkle pretty well. It's not glitter though, so it doesn't have that rough feeling like glitter can have, and (I'm hoping!) it won't be as difficult to remove.

nails 006

Just wanted to add this photo to show my new ring really :) I got it from Peacocks and we had a 40% off voucher so it only cost me £1.80 - usually £3, bargain! I really like it and I've been wearing it so much since I got it! I think it actually goes really well with this polish too!

I can't find this product online, but the standard 17 Lasting Fix polishes retail for £2.99, which I am happy to pay for polishes like this :)

What do you think of this polish? Have you tried this brand before, what did you think of it?

sky nails

Hi everyone :)
Just a really simple nail look today!

sky nails

The idea behind this was the sky. I have 4 crackle effect polishes by Barry M but had so far only ever used the black one. I thought it was about time to use another, and as the white one is a neutral colour I thought that would be easiest to come up with a look for.

sky nails

I actually really like how this turned out. I've used this not-so-brilliant quality photo because I think it shows that if you look from afar or at a glance, the effect is really quite cool. I thought this was a really simple way of doing a form of nail art that still has an idea behind it, if that makes sense? It's so easy and doesn't require any skill and yet in my opinion is an eye catching design!

Out of the black and white crackle polishes I think I like the white one more, although I've only used it once so far. I also have the blue and pink to try out (pink is the one I'm most unsure about how to use - any ideas?), and I really like the look of the purple and gold ones too! I also want to try out the foil effects ones - clearly I'm a sucker for effects and Barry M!

So anyway, I've rambled quite a lot for such a simple look! What do you all think?

Tuesday, 20 September 2011

Hi guys! Hope you all had a good weekend :)

I wanted to post my nails today, but there were some outfit photos on my camera which matched so I decided to post about both! I wore the outfit at the weekend and painted my nails last night :)

This look was done using all Barry M Nail Paints - (cuticle to tip) Berry Ice Cream, Bright Purple and Vivid Purple. I really want to try ombre nails but I need a couple more purple shades for that! This design really reminds me of those stripy ice lollies but I'm not sure why as it's not really the same idea. I still really like it though :)

Had to include this picture because I love how it shows the shimmer of the Vivid Purple :D

Top /Cardigan: H&M
Belt: Primark
Jeans (just seen): Peacocks
Necklaces: Accessorize (short), Matalan (long)

And this finishes off the purple theme! Not a very exciting outfit really, but I enjoyed wearing it at the time. I've not really had any jeans for a while now and I got a new pair from Peacocks so was just enjoying wearing jeans for the first time in a while :)

There are two sets of clashes (is that the way to word it?!) in this: I wanted to wear both necklaces but at first thought I couldn't because of them being both gold and silver, but when I tried it I actually really liked how they looked :) The other is the bright coral/orange belt poking out, this is obviously quite a purple outfit so I liked how the belt stood out :)

eye makeup

A not-so-awesome picture of my eye makeup. This was actually recreated as I wasn't able to take pictures the first time I wore it, and I do think it looked better then. This look was done with predominantly the dark brown colour next to the black (see this post for reference) in the Sleek Storm palette. There is a tiny bit of the black and the bottom left colour in the outser section but it is mainly just layering up the dark brown to get this look. I thought it looked a lot better in person, I was proud of the crease work :D You can see in the outfit picture that I have the brown under my eye too.

So that was my purple post! I hope you all liked :) Let me know what you think!
