essie - jamaica me crazy

Hi everyone!

Today's post is going to be about the third nail polish I got in the pack of three that I posted about here

Essie - Jamaica Me Crazy

Essie - Jamaica Me Crazy

This is Jamaica Me Crazy (I'm pretty confident this is actually it's name, too!) and as you can see its a blue toned bright pink/purpley colour. The photo above is a little more colour accurate than the one below.

Essie - Jamaica Me Crazy

Please excuse the stumpy nail :(

I have to say, I think I'm much more impressed with the formula of this than the other two - maybe Essie polishes are just a bit hit and miss. I think this was three coats and the third coat was more just to be sure than anything else, I could have left it at two. I can't remember if I said this in the other post or not but I am so impressed with the drying time of all the Essie polishes! Super quick :)

I do like this colour although I feel like out of the three, I'll get the least wear out of this one. Which is a shame because I found this one the easiest to apply. I just don't tend to go for this sort of shade too often, but when I feel like it, I'll know I'll be using a great polish :) This polish has convinced me that if I see another of the £10 packs of three with nice colours, I know it'll be worth it. However because the two nicer colours had a worse formula, and because I don't know how much wear I'll get out of this, I don't think I'd have paid the standard £8 for any of the three Essie polishes I've got. Sorry, I know that's an unpopular opinion!
Maybe I need to try the Boots diffusion ones instead?

Hope you like!

essie nail polish

Hi everyone!

Today I have a nail post for you - it's been a while!

At the weekend, I went into TK Maxx and headed straight for the beauty section. I have seen a few Essie polishes in there before and on blog posts so I'd decided that day was the day I would buy my first Essie polishes! I got a set of 3 for £9.99 and today I'm going to share two of those with you.

Essie Nail Polish

Unfortunately the naming of all the polishes they had on offer was awful. I think I saw about 5 different shades, all called Tangerine. None of those shades was orange in any way!

According to the labels, the polish on the left is We Can Do It Pink! - which I think might be right - and the right is Tangerine. From a quick Google search I'm pretty convinced that this isn't Tangerine, but I also think there are quite a few people who think it is Tangerine - probably because of the bad labelling.

Anyway! The swatches :)

Essie Nail Polish

I have to say that I wasn't amazed with the formula of these. They took a good 3-4 coats to look like this and for the first 2 or so coats they definitely wouldn't have been passable - a bit of a streaky mess! It didn't take as long as you might expect though because I found the drying time to be pretty good.

I've had my nails like this for 5 days now and am impressed with the chipping, especially considering the amount of coats I had to use.

Essie Nail Polish

WCDIP! is  so close to being white, in some lights it's really hard to tell! I think it depends what colour it's next to really, next to 'Tangerine' I think the pink tones to it come out a bit more - but only a little! It's a very very pale colour so definitely not too out there or anything like that, perfect for more formal occasions and I also think it would make a great base for things like glitter.

'Tangerine' is close to being neon but isn't quite there. It's a bring pink that is almost coral but again, not quite. Not that those are bad things though, I really like this. I just wish I didn't need so many coats!

I had heard that the original Essie polish formula's are a bit hit and miss, and that the Boots diffusion line is a lot better, so that might be what the problem is. That being said, I was impressed with the lasting power of these and if I saw another set of 3 colours that I liked I would be likely to buy it - but only if I liked them all. I don't think I'd pay £5 for these but more like £3 is about right I think. I am interested to try the new formulation though.

Overall I'm not wowed by this polishes but I don't hate them either. I think WCDIP! will come in especially handy and I'm sure I will continue to use these polishes. I like them, I think they are worth what I paid and I would pay the same again for them :)

Have you tried any of the non-Boots Essie polishes? Did you have similar experiences? If not, I'd be interested in hearing recommendations for shades to look out for :)

yankee candle by simply home - bartlett pear

Hi everyone!

I'm back with the last of my candle posts!

Simply Home Yankee Candle - Bartlett Pear

Today's post is another Simply Home Yankee Candle, and the scent is Bartlett Pear. I love fruity scents as mentioned before, so this is right up my street. Unlike the cherry one, there's no sweet side to this - not that it's sour, just there is no vanilla or anything like that. This is purely fruity! I love it, I love pears and the smell of them anyway so this was bound to be a hit with me.

Simply Home Yankee Candle - Bartlett Pear

My aunt described this as a 'kitchen candle' when she smelt it for the first time, and I can definitely see why. It smells so fresh and sort of clean, although clean isn't really a word I'd associate with pears. But I can see why some of the sickly sweet scents might seem a bit overpowering in a kitchen, while this I can see would be perfect. It may sound a little silly but scents like this make me so excited to move into my own house, so I can fill each room with a candle that matches!

Overall I'm just a huge fan of this, this is also a super big jar - it's bigger than the cherry one (pictures here for comparison) so I think it's Simply Home's version of the large Yankee Candle jar (pictures here for comparison). So I'm sure it will last a while which is great :)

what i got for my birthday - jewellery

Hi everyone!

So as I mentioned, it was my birthday a couple of weeks ago. Being my 21st it was more of a special 'milestone' birthday so I got some more special pieces of jewellery than I might normally get, as something I can keep. I did get other presents and am hugely grateful for all of them :) but I thought I'd post about the jewellery I got.

Elsie Belle Armadillo Necklace

First up is this Elsie Belle Armadillo necklace. Of course I had to have something with an animal on it :D I like that this is a bit of a different animal to have on a necklace, and I love the detail on it! So cute :)

Bracelet

Bracelet

I absolutely love this bracelet! I believe I heard the person who got me it say that it's from Argos, and that it comes in other colours - the sound of a rose gold one particularly interests me! I just think this is a gorgeous bracelet, I like that it has the glitter/sparkle to it but it's not too much. I've worn this every day and I just love it! :D

Spinning Jewellery Rings

Spinning Jewellery Rings

Spinning Jewellery Rings

These rings were my most '21st'y present I suppose. My mum had asked about getting me something like a Pandora or similar charm bracelet, but I don't love the idea of charm bracelets. I prefer to wear a lot of my more 'classic' jewellery every day, whatever I'm wearing, and I feel like a charm bracelet would end up getting in my way and bash into things. These rings are from a brand called Spinning Jewellery who are stocked in my local jewellers. What I like about these is that they're almost like charms in the collection sense. For birthdays, Christmas etc. instead of a charm, people can buy a ring that I can add to my collection, and mix and match which ones I wear together. My personal favourite is the clover one, but I love them all and I think they look great both in pairs and all grouped together. I'm just really happy with these rings, would definitely recommend them and love that I now have something I 'collect' :)

So that's it for the jewellery I got for my birthday!

liebster blog award

Hi everyone!

Bit of a different post from me today but one I'm really happy to be writing :) I will admit now that my version of this post is going to be a little bit of a cop out because I'm not great at coming up with things, so I'm just going to answer the questions. I've also broken up all the text with photos of my cats so you can enjoy those if you can't be bothered to read! :D

I was tagged in the Liebster Blog Award by Emily from Just Miss Emily - see her post here. In this tag I need to come up with 11 facts about myself and then she came up with 11 questions for me, which I will now answer!

1. When did you start your blog?
I posted a couple of blogs in April of 2010 which weren't related to what my blog now is, but my first proper posts were in October of 2010.

2. Favourite make up brand?
This is a tough one really! I love different brands for different things - generally though I just love 'drugstore' brands. A few that spring to mind are Barry M, Collection and MUA. If I was including high end I would say MAC and Benefit.

3. Favourite make up item?
My Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - it covers all!

4. What is the best beauty bargain you have ever got?
Anything from MUA really, you can't go wrong with their prices!

5. What is the most expensive item of makeup/beauty product you have purchased yourself?
My DiorShow mascara.

6. What is your favourite item of clothing or jewellery that you own?
Any of my jewellery that has animals on it :D and basically everything I wear on my wrists from day to day - stay tuned for a post about that!

7. Do you apply concealer before or after foundation?
Before, and then after if I feel I need to. Interesting question actually, because I've always felt I'm doing the opposite to what everyone else does!

8. Do you have other hobbies apart from blogging?
I have recently joined the gym, if that counts?! I also love cooking. Aside from that, just generally spending time with fun people, doing fun things :)

9.  Where do you purchase your beauty products from?
'Drugstores' mainly - Boots and Superdrug.

10. What colour is your natural hair colour?
Brown, the colour in most of my photos. It was red for a while so there are some older photos where it's kind of in between, but it's back to totally natural now.

11. Would you ever turn your blog into your full time job, given the opportunity?
I would honestly absolutely love to! But I have no expectations that that will ever happen.

Rosie

And now for 11 facts about me (this was very hard to come up with!):

1. Despite putting photographs of myself on the internet, I'm pretty shy when it comes to meeting new people and I'm awful at making small talk.

2. I hate my voice (doesn't everyone?!) and that's part of the reason I'll never make videos.

3. When I was in school I played violin for a total of around 7 years.

4. Rewind to around 4 years ago and I didn't care about makeup or fashion at all. Now look at me!

5. Despite the above, I've worn eyeliner in some form constantly since I was at least 13 - 8 years ago!

6. If you couldn't tell from the photos, I'm 100% a cat person.

7. On a similar topic to the above, I've had lots of pets over the years. Our house has been a home to: 6 cats, 5 guinea pigs, 6 (I think!) gerbils, 2 rats, 2 mice, and one Roborovski hamster, as well as plenty of fish!

8. I feel a lot older than I am. I just turned 21 but my boyfriend is coming up for 27 and he makes me feel older, plus I didn't go to university so I feel like I went into 'adult' life a lot sooner than most.

9. I'm bad when it comes to haircare. I just use whatever products are around on it and I only bother to style it in any way if it's a special occasion.

10. I love most foods except English - Japanese (sushi!), Spanish and Mexican are some of my favourite, but I really don't like things like a normal English roast dinner. I love fish and chips though!

11. I love home d├ęcor. I'm planning to move out in around 2 years time but because I already own the house, I'm constantly picturing what I'll do to it :) Pinterest is a great help with this!

Gibby

So that's everything. A huge thank you to Emily for tagging me in this, I know my post was a bit of a cop out but I'm very grateful to have been tagged, it's just nice to know people think of your blog!

I tag everyone who wants to do this! Leave a link if you do it so I can have a read :)

yankee candle by simply home - cherry vanilla

Hi everyone!

I have yet another candle post today, hope you're not too sick of them!

Simply Home Yankee Candle - Cherry Vanilla

Today's post is about a scent called Cherry Vanilla. This is from a brand called Simply Home but they seem to be a part of the Yankee Candle brand? I'm not 100% sure of the connection but the lids on the jars are the same as normal Yankee Candle ones and obviously the Yankee Candle name is on the front label too. These candles can be bought in B&Q (I'm sure other places too but that's where I've seen them) and are cheaper than the normal Yankee Candles.

Simply Home Yankee Candle - Cherry Vanilla

This scent combines my favourite types of smells - sweet and fruity. I think this candle does a really great job  of not being more of one than the other. I think cherry smells can often be a little sour (or maybe I just always associate them with cherry sweets!) but the vanilla really softens it. It reminds me of something but I can't put my finger on it, I almost want to say playdoh at some points, but then on the next whiff it's totally different. This candle seemed to be the most unpopular of the ones I got but I love it! I guess it's a bit of a love it or hate it one.

Simply Home Yankee Candle - Cherry Vanilla

The smell of this candle really lingers and fills the room which I love. This is also why I mentioned in a previous post that I wasn't 100% sold on the price tag of normal Yankee Candles, because this is cheaper but seems to be, in my opinion, just as good. However I know the main brand has such a huge variety of scents that appeal to everyone, whereas I noticed around 6 or so in the Simply Home range. So I would consider purchasing the main Yankee Candles again, but for scents that exist in the Simply Home range I would go with those instead.

Have you tried any of the Simply Home range? How do you think they compare?

yankee candle - drift away

Hi everyone!

I'm back with another post about the second Yankee Candle I got for my birthday recently.

Yankee Candle - Drift Away

This is Drift Away, which Yankee Candle have described as being a 'fresh' scent and I would definitely agree. I actually didn't notice the little 'theme' stickers on the jars at first and I quite like it because there are a few scent names - like this one - which aren't very descriptive, so it's quite useful.

I have to start off by saying that personally I wouldn't have picked this, I tend to gravitate towards sweet or fruity scents, but I do like this. It's a more relaxing candle that is great for when the sweeter fragrances are too overpowering - which I know they certainly can be, but there's no risk of that with Drift Away. I think by  the name of it, I've got the right idea anyway :)

Yankee Candle - Drift Away

This definitely does give off a scent, but because it's one of the smaller jars, it doesn't quite fill the room. But I think that actually fits in with this candle to be honest. I have also noticed it burns quite a bit quicker than I expected it to, but I suppose that's because of the size. I do like this but I don't think I would repurchase, I don't think I could justify the cost of it to be honest. I will enjoy it while it lasts though :) I'm sure it would be great for people who like fresh scents - I don't usually like them at all so if I like this even a little it must mean it's a nice fresh one, if that makes sense?!

Have you smelt this candle before, are you a fan?

yankee candle - vanilla cupcake

Hi everyone!

I know I said I had a few birthday posts but the outfit pictures didn't really go to plan! There will be a post about what I got, but I did get 4 Yankee Candles and so thought I'd post about them - I know candles are big in blogging at the moment haha!

Yankee Candle - Vanilla Cupcake

I thought I'd start with my ultimate favourite! Vanilla Cupcake is the one candle I knew I definitely wanted. I'm a sucker for sweet scents, I would say my taste in smells isn't very mature! But I just love anything sweet, the sicklier the better :D

Yankee Candle - Vanilla Cupcake

This has definitely been described as sickly by people I know, but for me it's perfect. I can't put my finger on the added scent that makes it more than vanilla, so I'm going to assume it's cupcake! But to me it smells like more than a vanilla cake I think.

Yankee Candle - Vanilla Cupcake

This is my first Yankee Candle and I have to say I'm impressed. I know they're expensive and I was a little sceptical about whether they'd be worth it, which is why I waited to get one as a present. However it is true, the scent does fill the room, which I've never experienced before with any other candle. It maybe took a while, at first it was only when coming into the room, but then it grew into something I kept catching whiffs of every now and then, which was great. I can definitely see why people pay for these rather than cheaper candles - the range of  amazing scents is a big plus too! - but I'm not sure they're fully worth the £20ish for a large jar. I have more to say on why that is in future posts about these candles.

Yankee Candle - Vanilla Cupcake

Overall I love this candle - I actually got two of these by accident but after burning it I'm very glad I have a backup!

Are you a Yankee Candle fan? Which scents would you recommend?

Hope you liked!
